Remembering one of the greats

As a comic book fan, I have to send my condolences to the family of a great man. He had a profound impact on the comic book industry. That man’s name is Joe Kubert. Joe Kubert passed away this past Monday August 13, 2012. Mr. Kubert entered into the comic book industry at the age of 13 after emigrating into the U.S. from Poland. He has an extensive history working with several comic book companies including Marvel, DC, Fox Comics, Quality and All-American comics.
Mr. Kubert created his first super hero Volton. He helped comic book companies create characters such as The Seven Soldiers of Victory, The Flash, Hawkman, The Viking Prince, Sgt. Rock, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Wolverine and Captain America. In addition, he created a school in 1970 called the Joe Kubert School for young illustrators who were eager to provide their contributions to the comic book industry.
Your legacy will never be forgotten dear friend. Your spirit will always be with the industry. As I always say, the spirit of a super hero never dies and you are a true super hero.

What’s that smell in the air?

Yesterday Marvel announced it has partnered with JADS International to produce fragrances from superhero characters in Marvel’s The Avengers. Characters include The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor.
Iron Man’s Mark VII cologne consists of: a combination of mandarin and jasmine with a light patchouli
Captain America’s “Patriot Cologne” consists of: green lime, white pepper, dry oak wood, sandalwood and tequila
Thor’s “Worthy Cologne” consists of: a woody citrus musk that consists of bergamot, frozen ginger, wheatgrass, grapefruit and cypress
Hulk’s “SMASH Be Angry” cologne consists of: yuzu, terragon, water lily and nutmeg, Indian sandalwood, musk and cedar
I wonder if I wear the Iron Man cologne if I will attract all the ladies when I go out partying. Maybe I’ll wear Thor’s cologne, the ladies will have to be worthy to date this superhero-The War Machine. I’ll be sure not to wear Hulk’s cologne, I don’t want to scare the ladies away.

Spidey Sense is Tingling Money

I was reading an article on Forbes today and it mentioned Marvel’s The Amazing Spider-Man has already grossed over $340 million domestically in it’s opening weekend. Forbes is predicting the movie will generate $700 million worldwide. The movie has taken the #8 spot on the yearly domestic charts.
The sequel has already been announced as a result of the film’s success.
Way to go Spider-Man. You’re swinging into the top five of box office hits, you’re swinging into history, and breaking records. It’s hard to keep track of you. Hey Marvel, make sure Spider-Man makes an appearance in The Avengers 2 so that way The Amazing Spider-Man 2 also generates buzz.

Spider-Man Swings Into History

With the Amazing Spider-Man set to hit theaters on July 3rd, Spider-Man made an appearance at the Museum of Natural History this past Wednesday June 27th. Actor Andrew Garfield (Spider-Man) and Director Marc Webb were present at the museum. Afterwards, Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) signed autographs for the fans.
I wonder if the spidey-sense was tingling when Spider-Man was webbing across the museum. I don’t think so, since Spider-Man arrived during the daylight hours. Usually there are no crimes occurring during that time.
I’m surprised Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield/Spider-Man) didn’t stop by his job site over at the Daily Bugle (a.k.a. Daily News HQ) after the appearance to present the photos that he took of Spider-Man at the museum.

Superheroes always fight for the cure

In October, Marvel will be supporting National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by partnering with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Marvel Comic Book covers of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Wolverine and other Marvel characters will be in pink. Marvel will also educate readers about breast cancer through its comic books in October.
In addition to the comic books, Marvel will also promote National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Marvel.com and through social media.
It’s time for the superheroes to take on the call of action and help fight the evil disease known as breast cancer. Looks like Iron Man will need a new pink suit. I wonder if Tony Stark will approve of wearing a pink suit. I say to Tony, “When it comes to fighting evil, you have to try something new to achieve victory”.

Reaching the online gaming community

Marvel has introduced a new online game called Super Hero Squad Online. Marvel has partnered with Gazillion Entertainment to create and produce the game. Each week Marvel characters from The Avengers movie will be introduced into the game. The purpose of the game is to fight crime, join SHIELD by choosing your favorite Marvel super hero and protect Super Hero City.
With this game Marvel is reaching out to new audiences of all ages. Marvel has been promoting the game through Twitter.
Don’t worry the game is free and it has been “kid tested, mother approved”. I just had a nice bowl of Kix cereal this morning, hence the reason for the quote.
Who says The SIMS and Diablo III get the have all of the online fun?
Play the game and don’t get too addicted. Here is the link: https://www.heroup.com/
Reading is Fundamental

The Amazing Spider-Man: The Movie comic book is currently in stores. This is the second and final issue released before the movie debuts in theaters July 3rd. The story and events in the comic book introduces the events in the movie.
In addition, there is a surprise included in the comic book for The Amazing Spider-Man: The Movie video game.
Reading a comic book that promotes a movie and a video game. What an amazing tactic incorporating all of the elements.
I’ll be webbing across Manhattan to pick up this comic book before class today.

Marvel Pinball 3D spins onto the Nintendo 3DS this summer for $7.99 in North America and €7.00 in Europe! This standalone game features four critically acclaimed Marvel Pinball tables: Iron Man, Captain America, Blade and Fantastic Four, each in 3D.
Marvel Pinball 3D will have scoring features such as online leaderboards, local hot seat multiplayer, Hero Score and Team Force, as well as rewards for completing missions on each table.
Marvel and Pinball who would’ve thought. A very interesting concept. I wonder which superhero will rise to the top and claim superhero dominance. You can make that happen.
With the options such as online leaderboards, local hot seat multiplayer, Hero Score and Team Force, I can definitely see gamers going on Facebook or Tweeting each other to invite their friends for multiplayer action.
Social media can also be used to issue challenges. After all, who doesn’t want to be #1 in the online leaderboards and show off that very impressive high score. Since the game is in 3D, maybe Captain America or Iron Man will pop out of your Nintendo 3DS and congratulate you. It’s too bad you won’t be able to give them a high five.
